What to Expect When You Are Expecting to Have Maternity Portraits Taken

When Do I Get Portraits Done?
I suggest getting portraits done anytime during the eighth month. You will still be pretty comfortable, there is less chance that you will deliver before you have a chance to get portraits done, and you'll have a little more energy.

Black and White or Color?
This is up to you. When asked, I will tell you that I always prefer black and white, but some people just aren't sure. Because we shoot digitally we have the best of both worlds, we can see each portrait in color or black and white and you can decide for yourself.

Including Partners & Children
Feel free to include anyone you'd like in your maternity portraits, it's a special time in your life

Clothing
I suggest keeping clothing simple and with no pattern on it. Unless you have something really funky and fun like a lime green bikini with pink polka dots! Actually I'm not kidding, if you have a fun idea let me know, or bring it with you, we'll figure it out when you get here!

If you plan on going bare or semi bare, I suggest wearing loose clothing for at least an hour before you arrive with no tight fitting undergarments. They tend to leave red marks on your skin.

For Dads I suggest a white or black t-shirt or undershirt type tank that fits really well. I like to see bare arms on guys when they are in these portraits so t-shirts and tanks work really well! Bare chests look nice too!

For kids again I suggest simple with no pattern, thermal underwear if it's winter, tanks or tees if it is summer, bare is nice too!

Posing
If you have some examples of portraits that you have seen that you like bring them with you. This gives me a better idea of your expectations and can provide a source of inspiration for the sitting. If not, we'll just talk a bit when you arrive and design a portrait session together.

Stretch Marks
If you happen to have stretch marks it is very easy to take those out. Don't worry a thing about it!
