Tyler’s Senior Portrait Session – Marietta, Ohio Parkersburg, West Virginia Senior Portrait Photographer

Tyler’s senior portrait session was a fun downtown Marietta afternoon. Tyler is a 2017 graduate of Marietta High School. I’ve known Tyler and his family for several years at this point and honestly, photographing his senior portraits made me feel old! I mean not like super old, but Senior portraits are such a rite of passage that it is difficult to ignore the transition it commemorates. Senior Portraits mark the cusp of that giant leap or shift that is about to happen. You can’t ignore it, things are about to change.

Those of you that have known me for awhile know that one of my great pleasures in life; so far, has been having a hand in raising a fella I now refer to as “The Man Cub”. His senior year in high school was  a mixed bag for me emotionally for a lot of reasons, but the knowledge that he was about to leave the nest was a mixture of terrified, delighted, in-denial, convinced he wouldn’t last a day,  manic nostalgia. I planned my entire year around his graduation date, marking things off an imaginary  To Do list that could have belonged to a deranged housekeeper.

  • Last Christmas
  • Last Prom
  • Last time to have to deal with THAT teacher
  • Last time to order someone to change the sheets
  • Last time to pick up socks
  • Last birthday at home
  • Last family trip

I became MORE tolerant of having a house full of kids playing video games all weekend. I would tell his mom, “Yes, they are ALL here again, this is our last year with a house full of boys.”

I knew that some day I would miss the crusty socks on the floor, the weird smell coming from his room and his boy brain forgetfulness.  Several years later, what I miss more than anything is the way he smells when I get that rare hug, the way it feels warm and solid somewhere deep in my soul when I watched him eat a good meal, and the way house his sense of humor and buddies filling up all of the space with their computers and teenage laughter made the house feel full and alive. Portraits mark time. Portraits freeze time. Portraits remind you of how much time has passed.

Tyler got me feeling all kinds of nostalgic for the Man Cub. I met Tyler and his family when his little brother was just a few weeks old. A gal with the sweetest southern accent called to inquire about a newborn session and a long friendship was born. When his mom mentioned Senior Portraits last year, I could not believe that much time had passed.

If you know Tyler you know he is a football player for Marietta High School and he is a super easy guy to spend time around. He is funny and and has killer eyes. We had a great time visiting, catching up and shooting in downtown Marietta, using the city as our backdrop.

Now lets get to the good stuff –

PS —  Something else I learned by having a senior is how expensive senior year can be. You tend to get sand bagged pretty hard financially at the end of the year. This is one of the reasons I suggest scheduling senior portraits for the summer before your kiddos senior year. We have  a booking special going on right now that includes a complimentary family session and an 11×14 canvas gallery wrap if you contact us to schedule your session by June 15th. You can schedule your senior session and family session for anytime between now and September 15th to take advantage of this great session bundle.
